Who we are

Coconut was founded by Sam and Adam, who met 13 years ago when training as accountants at PwC. After selling their first business in 2014, they started freelancing. With the unique insight that they’d gleaned from working on both sides of the fence, in 2018 they founded Coconut: simple tax and accounting software for sole traders and accountants.

We’ve built simple accounting software for the UK’s 3m sole traders and their accountants that help them stay on top of their finances, send invoices, capture receipts and make tax return time stress free. Coconut uses Open Banking to extract and analyse transactions from over 30 banks and credit card providers, making for effortless accounting.

Coconut is leading the charge on helping the UK’s 3m sole traders and their accountant prepare for HMRC’s ‘Making Tax Digital for Income Tax’ initiative, which will require them to complete tax submissions every 3 months in addition to the annual tax return. It’s the biggest shake up to the UK tax system since self-assessment was introduced 20 years ago.

Coconut is available on iOS, Android and Web for sole traders, whilst our Accountant Partners access it on Web exclusively. With MTD for Income Tax only 18 months away from coming into full effect, we’re seeing demand from accountants increase rapidly and so we’re investing heavily in Web to support them.

Coconut is backed by leading tech accelerator, Techstars, and we’ve won several awards—including the Nesta Open Up Challenge, which supports innovative SMEs who utilise Open Banking.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced frontend engineer to join us. We’re a small team focussed on the reliability of our tech stack and making new features as easy as possible to implement. We’re looking for someone who can take over ownership of our web frontend and help us not only deliver a fantastic user experience but also shape the future architecture.

Our main frontend technology stack

The rest of our tech stack is comprised of native iOS & Android apps, with Python and AWS for our backend REST API.
